HONORING HOMETOWN SPORTS HEROES

 

 

There will be a special exhibit at the museum which will open on Saturday April 12 2008 and will run through Sunday April 27, 2008 during the East Texas Gusher Days Festival in Gladewater.      This exhibit will honor area professional athletes from White Oak, Union Grove, Big Sandy, Winona, Sabine and Gladewater.  Some of the sports to be represented are football, baseball, rodeo, golf, basketball; wrestling and officiating. 

 

Included in the exhibit will be memorabilia, photos, documents and video presentations showcasing the careers of our ‘Hometown Sports Heroes”.  Some of the individuals to be honored are Max McGee-Super Bowl I; Winston Hill-Super Bowl III; Byron Boston (official)-Super Bowl XXIV; Coach Lovie Smith-Super Bowl XLI; Deb Mohon-World Champion Barrel Racer and Dick Burnett-Baseball Pioneer/Owner who in 1952 integrated the Texas League by signing Dave Hoskins, a pitcher, who eventually signed with the Cleveland Indians. 

 

The museum hours will be expanded for this event.  The exhibit will be open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Saturday and 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sundays.  The exhibit will be free to the public however; donations are accepted with our thanks and appreciation.  

 

This exhibit is for all ages and it is our hope that the exhibit will inspire and promote positive values in sports to all who attend the exhibit
